BABY CARE TIPS

👶Baby care tips especially regarding food..
Exclusive breastfeeding from birth to 6 Months of age.
Introduce complementary foods at 6Months of age while continuing to breastfeed.
First start with fruits, then vegetables and then cereals.
Introduce one type of food every 2-3 days to make sure that the child is not allergic to any foods.
Some babies have allergy to some foods;only mother can identify the proper allergens. In babies who have atopic dermatitis, blood in stool, recurrent respiratory complaints etc.consult the doctor to rule out Lactose intolerance,Cow milk protein allergy,Autoimmune allergic rhinitis etc.Do proper blood tests,Stool examination and allergy tests according to Doctor's opinion.

* Try to select the foods according to season. For eg:- try to minimise Ragi during winter as it will predispose to cold in babies, also try to minimise consumption of wheat during summer as it will increase body heat.
*Give proper care to the diet of children who have skin complaints like eczema, atopic dermatitis etc.Avoid giving non veg foods especially egg, fish ;also avoid brinjal, elephant yam, minimise wheat products. The animal proteins and calcium oxalate in the above foods will aggravate the itching of skin complaints.
Breast feeding should continue with complementary feeds atleast upto 2Yrs of age and it should be on demand as often as the child want.
Avoid salt and sugar upto 1yr of age. Not only sugar, but also avoid jaggery, kalkandam upto 1Yr, but you can give natural sweet containing fruits from 6Months onwards.
Avoid giving honey upto 1Yr as there is a risk of Botulism.
Avoid cows milk untill 1Yr. For children more than 1Yr, limit cows milk to 500-750 Mls/Day as too much of cows milk can lead to iron defeciency.Always prefer Natural cows milk than bottle milk as they contain preservatives.
Always try to give naturally available home made foods to babies. Prefer locally available and affordable fruits and vegetables.
Everymother usually complaints about appetite drop of their babies that is usually seen in between 1-2 Yrs, its nothing but they are very much fond of playing as well as to breatmilk during this period. U can reduce the intensity of appetite drop by some tricks-
*Dont breast feed half or one hour before a meal.
*Increase the frequency of meals., make 6 instead of 3.
*Its the best time to introduce variety of foods like new fruits, new cereals, non vegs like egg, fish and meat.
*Also change the place of feeding, also the person who feeds.. Give a
chance to their father and grandparents as well😋.

*If you find out extreme appetite loss, consult your doctor and rule out Iron deficiency anaemia as loss of appetite is a symptom of it.Check Haemoglobin in blood, if its found low check MCHC, Serum iron and serum ferritin.
In anaemic babies, avoid giving choclates, coffee, tea, minimise milk and milk products.Include more fruits and vegetables in diet especially vit -c containing fruits like oranges, guava, gooseberry, pomegranate and vegetables like beetroot, carrot, leafy vegetables etc.

*A routine blood test is mandatory after the age of one even if your child is asymptomatic.Atleast try to check blood haemoglobin to rule out anaemia, blood glucose to rule out Juvanile diabetes which are very common now a days.

Avoid using microwave to re- heat food.
Consume food within 2Hrs of preparation or store in fridge.
Don't re-heat Food more than one time.
Five keys to safer food- Keep clean, Use separate vessels and utensils for baby foods, cook thoruoghly, keep food at safe temperatures and use safe water and raw materials.

Enjoy Motherhood..
